Ben Sargent is a smart and talkative 6-year-old boy who is the light and joy of our family. He started fighting for his life before he got a chance to take his first breath. With no explanation, Ben’s mother experienced contractions months before little Ben was ready to join the world. When Ben was finally old enough to join our family, the joy of his arrival was quickly replaced with the thought that his time with us would be tragically short. Ben, though, proved them all wrong. Elizabeth Hammill lives in Lafayette and is the proud parent of four children and grandparent of one. In October 2010, she discovered a lump on her left breast. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in Dec. 2010. After chemotherapy in early 2011, she is in remission. Read her story
Henry Joseph Sylve, Jr. was born on April 6, 1960 in City Price, Louisiana. After Hurricane Katrina, he resided in Hammond, Louisiana with his wife Melissa and two daughters, Ashley and Dereka. Henry Joseph Sylve, Jr. worked in the oil production field for 30 years. On June 4, 2010, Henry had to have his gall bladder
removed and the sequence of events that followed was detrimental. Read his story.
Pegi Hodges was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), September of 2010. She noticed her speech changing as early as March. I went to my neurologist here and he ran every test he could and came to the conclusion that it was ALS. Read her story.

Alice Guidry Hue was born in the small community of Dularge, La., on November 28, 1952. She was the eldest daughter and middle child of Beulah and Lester Guidry, Sr. At the young age of 13, she met her future husband, Calvin, at Houma Junior High School.
